Facebook Disconnect

Vacation gives us the chance to unplug and recharge -- which, when thinking about that metaphor being applied to an electronic device, doesn't really make sense. The only way to recharge a device (unless you use one of those power mats) is to plug it in to some type of power source. However, the human body recharges through a very different way (at least for a large percentage of the population). The phrase "social media vacation" has been thrown around since the advent of Facebook, Twitter... even MySpace. Anyone who knows me well knows that I spend an inordinate amount of time on social media.

Well, soon I'll be going on vacation (4 days at a state park lodge). And while I'm not going to completely give up all of my social media accounts during that time, I will be ignoring Facebook. The big one. The mother of all social media networks, at least as far as most people are concerned.

It'll be interesting to see how that goes. I may still occasionally hop on Twitter, Foursquare, or Instagram. But Facebook (the newsfeed, messages, and everything else addictive), will be moved to the very last screen on my phone. Heck, I may even delete the app. Well... maybe I won't go that far. We'll see how hard it is to stay away.

To be honest, I'm really looking forward to this. Almost as much as the upcoming vacation (actual vacation, not just my time-off from Facebook). And that's saying something.
